SEPTEMBER 2008 ISSUE 9
There will not be a September meeting of the Illiana Antique Power Association. The next meeting will be in October 2008.
Get your campers out and join us for a camping week-end at the show grounds on September 19th and 20th. There’s a vegetable dinner planned for Saturday evening, so bring a dish to pass. All other meals are up to the individual families coming to camp. Fees for camping will be $10.00 per night to cover the electricity. RSVP: Kenny Short:
765-583-2991 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org by September 15th so we have an idea on who is coming to camp.
Our annual “Fun Day” is scheduled to be held on September 21, 2008!!
We will have a carry-in dinner at 2:00 P.M. The club will supply some tasty fried chicken (you can still bring a meat dish if you like). We will have lemonade, ice tea and coffee along with our delicious freshly pressed cider. We will be pressing apples from Covington’s Coffing Bros. Orchard but, if you have some apples (or pears) you’d like to press, please bring them along. Also, don’t forget to bring your own plastic jugs so you can take some cider home!
Come as early as you like (if not camping) .......the railroad group will have the trains “fired up!” Don Bodine will have his steam engine fired up as well. If you have a hobby you’d like to share, bring it along to show us. Ask a friend, bring ‘em along! SEE YOU THERE!!!
ROCKY FORGE BLACKSMITHS NEWS:
After a three week recovery from the Illiana show, the blacksmith group spent two very long days demonstrating at the Indiana State Fair. We had a good turnout with six on the first day and nine during the second day. If you have never been to the Pioneer Village at the State Fair, you are missing out on a good one. Our Illiana member Kathy Olin, has worked there for many years as well as other notable craft people. The old farm machinery and home displays are really worth seeing. Our next meeting will be September 13th, just down the road from the Illiana show grounds, at Greg Searcy’s located in Rainsville. We are looking forward to that meeting on the cliffs of Pine Creek. Meeting time is 9:00 A.M. and a pitch in lunch will be at about noon. Greg is cooking his famous pork tenderloin. In the event of rain, we will move the meeting to our new building. PINE CREEK AND WESTERN R.R. NEWS:
Recent track repairs and changes have made railroading better than ever on the old PC&W! With that in mind, we’re hoping to get some engines out for Fun Day. Members are urged to bring whatever equipment they can and enjoy the day. Seems new railroader, Don Evans, has bought himself some great engines and rolling stock and will soon be burning up the rails he worked so hard to improve this summer. Welcome aboard!! Don, glad to see new interest in the trains. I hope to organize another “Steam up” before the weather goes bad, but we’ll see. “Keep Em’ Rollin! Submitted by: Finny Filchak
At our August meeting directors: Joan Fry, Ed Grubb and Kenny Short were re-elected for another term.
Club member Deb Dye’s father passed away in August. Our condolence to the Dye family.
Terry Bodine has knee re-placement surgery scheduled for October 15th. Speedy recovery Terry!
(You can send sympathy cards to his wife, Anne...((me!))...before or after his surgery!)
With all the knee replacements our club members have had recently, maybe we should schedule some relay races for them! (I’m only kidding about the cards, by the way.)
Membership dues for 2009 were due at Show Time. If you have not already paid, please send a check for $20.00 to Doris Manlief, 3618 Donna Dr., Lafayette, In. 47905
