MARCH 2008                                          ISSUE 3

MEETING:

The March meeting is scheduled for Monday, the 17th......HAPPY ST.  PATRICK’S DAY!!

We will begin at 6:30 P.M. at the club house with our usual **carry-in dinner.  It has been brought to our attention that some of the members prefer the 50/50 drawing instead of the merchandise drawing.  So, bring a dish to pass but nothing for the table, as we will revert back to the 50/50 drawings for future meetings.  Wear your GREEN and celebrate St.  Patty’s Day with us!  (Let’s see how many “Irish” are among us!)

**Don’t forget to bring your recipe for the dish you prepare to add to our new recipe folder.

WORK DAY SCHEDULED:

Tom Swanson has scheduled Thursday, March 13th at 9:00 A.M. for a work day at the club house.  One project will be to install new kitchen cabinets in the kitchen area.  Tom was able to purchase new cabinets but, they need to be cleaned and the old one’s need to taken out.  All available members are asked to help .  The second project will be to repair the broken water lines.  We had no water in the club house at the February meeting.....pipes were frozen.  Wayburn Norfleet has volunteered to bring the materials needed for the repairs, but he will also need some “man power” to get the project done.  If you have some “plumbing skills”, please plan to help that day.

ROCK FORGE BLACKSMITH NEWS:

The Rocky Forge group met at Ted Stout’s shop on February 9th with a good turnout of about 21 individuals; some claiming to be blacksmiths and some aspiring “smiths” and some guests and new members.  Also, some of our friends from the Rural Smiths of Mid-America were present which is always a treat.  At the business meeting we discussed our new building plans and a “show and tell” of the many new items available to the metalsmith from the market.  The group agreed to plan and administer the Saturday night forging contest at the Indiana Blacksmith Conference at Tipton in May.  After a successful iron-in-the-hat ($91.00) we had a great lunch prepared by Carol Stout along with many covered dishes brought in by the members.  After lunch the forges were lit and away we went.  New members got some hands on training and the old members made some neat items.  Our next meeting will be March 8th in Ted’s shop

SYMPATHY AND GET WELL WISHES:

Deanna Durrett’s father, Jim Hood,  passed away recently.   Our sympathy goes out to them.

Alice McKinney has been undergoing chemo and radiation treatments, Kenny Short has been scheduled for operations to replace both knees and Ken Evans is waiting for test results.  John and Penny Carrell’s granddaughter, Dakota is still recuperating from her accident in December.

Best wishes to them all and speedy recoveries!  Carol Stout would like to send cards to everyone from the club who needs a “cheering up” so, if you know of someone who is sick or has passed away please forward the info to her.  Her phone number is: 765-572-2467 or E-mail:

CAMPING:

It is not too early to make reservations to camp at this year’s show.  John Carrell already has camp sites spoken for.  It is encouraged to call John and reserve your space now.  A $25.00 camping fee covers the electric and water costs.  Camping is limited and since the club will be hosting the IH Collector’s Indiana Chapter 7, an early payment for the site will lock in your space.  Contact John at 765-793-3282 or E-mail at pacarrell@sbcglobal.net

Fortunately, SUMMER’S CAMP GROUND is just a few miles down the road from the show grounds and will  be available if our camping sites are full.   Their  phone number is: 765-762-2832.

BUT, EARLY PAYMENT WILL LOCK IN YOUR SPACE!
