JUNE 2008 ISSUE 6
The next meeting of the Illiana Antique Power Assoc. is scheduled for Monday, June 16th at 6:30 P.M. at the clubhouse. Bring a dish to pass (and recipes) for the carry-in dinner. Show time is almost here so try to attend this meeting!
A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Hello to all.
The excitement is building. It’s hard to believe show time is less than 60 days from now. It never ceases to amaze me of all the hard work and effort all of you put in to make our show a success. I am proud, as all of you should be, that we have a family oriented show with as much to offer at a minimal cost to those purchasing tickets. I am keeping a positive outlook on this year’s event even with high fuel prices. For those of you that haven’t been to the show grounds recently, the blacksmiths have had a new pavilion constructed that is “first class” and will allow them to work under roof. I’m sure our three day show will have the largest group of working blacksmiths of any show in the state!
Also, new this year will be “Kathy’s Kitchen”, a nice portable building built with the labor of many volunteers.
We can be proud of our grounds and it’s appearance thru the efforts of Jim and Doris Manlief
Be sure to attend the June meeting as we have many committees and positions to be covered. I know we are needing people to help with tickets sales at the front gate along with other jobs also.
Be sure to bring any ads that you have sold, as this is the deadline for them.
Don’t forget our goals for tractors and gas engines. Encourage your friends, in-laws, out-laws and neighbors to get those old tractors, engines, trucks and cars out and bring them to the show!
See you June 16th,

GET WELL WISHES:
This is one of the hardest “GET WELL WISHES” I’ve had to write for the newsletter. One of my best and dearest friend has breast cancer and is scheduled for surgery June 17th. Her name is Doris Manlief......and, you know her as the secretary- treasurer of our club. Luckily, Doris’ doctors have diagnosed this early so, we all want to keep her in our prayers. Doris will be at Home Hospital in Lafayette, In. We love you Doris......and a speedy recovery! A.B.
All is well with Alice McKinny.. She is doing great and does not have to see her doctors again until Nov. She would like to thank everyone for all the e-mails, prayers, calls and cards. Good news, Alice!
With the increase of postage again recently (along with the added cost of photocopying) we are requesting E-Mail addresses so club members can receive the newsletter on their computers. If we don’t already have yours, please E-Mail to: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
A reminder that Tom Nickle needs volunteers to help work the gate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the show. This is going to be a big job so help Tom get a work schedule made up for the time you want to work.
Also, Marie Nickle is in charge of the pie booth again this year. Pat Grubb and her family are always there to help but Marie needs more volunteers so every one can have a break and enjoy the show. Let Marie know when you can help. Contact Tom or Marie at: 765-798-5420 or E-Mail:
ROCKY FORGE NEWS, JUNE 7TH ‘08
The Rocky Forge group met June 7th at Ted’s shop with the full intention of firing up 8-10 forges, then the sky let loose which turns out to be rains south of us that surpassed even the famous 1913 flood. Not to be discouraged, we worked inside on various projects and had an all around good time. Plans were made for the Illiana Show and it looks like we will have a good turnout. We are looking forward to using our new building and a successful show. Plans were also made for black smithing at the State Fair, which is August 6-13th. Our group will tentatively be smithing for two of those days. Hot days no doubt! This past month we have a lot to brag about, once again one of our members, Greg Searcy, won the Indiana Blacksmiths prestigious award, “Rooky of the Year”.
Greg who lives near the show grounds at Rainsville has really progressed over the past year and is very deserving of the award which carries a $500.00 scholarship to a metalsmithing class of the recipient’s choice. Also, at the annual IBA conference the Rocky Forge group administered and judged the forging contest. Our group now has 3 board members (Dominick Andrasini, Dave Childress and Ted Stout) and the vice president of the IBA, Dave Childress, is from the Rocky Forge group. The Rocky Forge group was the largest satellite group represented at the IBA conference in May. We are proud of our accomplishments. We plan to have a raffle at the Illiana show for a metal cutting saw that uses the latest technology for metal cutting. The saw has been purchased and tickets are selling $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Any support you can give will be appreciated. It is our hope to retire the building loan this fall.

A Department of Water representative stopped at a farm and talked with an old farmer. He told the farmer, “I need to inspect your farm for your water allocation.” The old farmer said, “Ok, but don’t go in that field over there.” The Water representative said, “Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me . See this card? The card means I am allowed to go WHERE EVER I WISH on any agricultural land. No questions asked or answered. Have I made myself clear?” The farmer nodded politely and went about his farm chores. Later, the old farmer heard loud screams and saw the Water Rep. running for the fence and close behind was the farmer’s huge-horned prize bull. The bull was gaining on the Water Rep. with every step. The Water Rep. was clearly terrified, so the old farmer immediately threw down his tools, ran to the fence and shouted out....”Your card! Your card! Show him your card!
We would like to announce a new member, Dan Michael of Crawfordsville, In. to the club......
