JUNE 2005                                          ISSUE 5

OUR NEWSLETTER IS EARLY THIS MONTH SO WE COULD INFORM EVERYONE OF THE DEPKE WELDING OPEN HOUSE AND OUR 3RD ANNUAL TRACTOR DRIVE.   SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!

MEETING SCHEDULE:

This will be our last meeting before the show.....Try to attend.  It will be on June 20, 2005 at 6:30 P.M. at the club house.  There will be a merchandise drawing, so don’t forget to bring something for the table and a dish to pass as we will have dinner before the meeting.

BLACKSMITHS:

The Rocky Forge Blacksmith Guild met at Ted’s on May 14th.  There were 22 in attendance with plans to do a lot of outside forging and work on the cemetery arch for West Point.  The rain caused us to remain indoors for most of the day.  We did forge some of the needed letters for the cemetery arch from 1 ½" x 1/8" flat stock.  The most challenging was making an “o”, but it worked out very well.  Some of the group worked on restoration of a large bellows to be installed in the Independence Blacksmith shop.  A logo that can be applied to shirts and hats was approved for a trial run.  We had a good pitch in meal at noon, similar to the Iliana meals, more food than we could eat.  Our next meeting will be at Independence for their Heritage Festival on June 18th, at Tipton for the Indiana Blacksmiths conference on June 3, 4, & 5th, then at the Illiana  Steam Power Show July 15, 16, & 17th.           Ted Stout

CAMPING:

If you plan to camp during the show, you need to contact Charlie Lupinek for a space.  Camping will be $25.00 and Charlie will have forms to fill out at the meeting.  Or,  you can call him at 765-589-8366.

POT-LUCK DINNER:

There will be a Friday night pot-luck dinner again this year.  We will be cooking sweet corn, potatoes, and sausages or hot dogs with Don Bodine’s steam engine.  Bring a dish to pass and enjoy some real good food!!

PIES, CAKES, COOKIES, ETC.:

The ladies will be selling pies again this year and would like everyone to donate at least two fruit pies.  Cakes, cookies, cobblers, and candy are big sellers also.  This is a good money maker for our club and we appreciate all donations.

DUTCH OVEN COOK-OFF:

An added feature this year will be a Dutch Oven Cook-off held on Saturday.  Categories are:

MEAT AND MAIN DISHES, VEGETABLES, BREADS, AND DESSERTS.  Bring your recipe written on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet.  Judging will begin at 3:00 P.M. by peoples choice.  Any one can enter not just club members.  Practice sessions will be held on Friday.  Maybe we can sample the goodies at the pot luck dinner??!!  Any  questions call Kenny Campfield at 765-339-4252.
