ILLIANA NEWS

APRIL 2006                                               ISSUE 3

MEETING:

The next meeting of the Illiana Antique Power Assoc.  will be held on April 17, 2006 at 6:30 P.M. at the clubhouse.  Everyone seems to enjoy the merchandise drawing, so please bring an item for the table.  Remember, the money from the drawing goes into our treasury.  Before the meeting, we will have a carry-in dinner so, bring your dish to pass and “chow down” on some good food!  The up-coming History Day will be discussed.  Art Petty will have a sign-up sheet for volunteers to help to set up on the Sunday before and the day the students will be there.  If you can’t attend the meeting and want to volunteer, you can call Art at: 765-294-2301.

We’d like to thank Joe and Joan Fry for hosting last month’s meeting in their home.  The corned beef and cabbage (along with the rest of the carry-in food) was delicious!!  Each table was decorated with one of Joe’s farm toys as the center-piece.  Very appropriate for a tractor club, don’t you think?  THANKS AGAIN, Joe and Joan!!!

CAMERA:

No one has claimed the camera that was left at Stout’s Thanksgiving Dinner last fall.  You can still contact Carol at: 765-572-2467 or E-Mail stout8525@wptc.us.

COOKBOOK UP-DATE:

All the boxes of cookbooks have been passed out.  Now we need to get all those books sold!!

If you haven’t gotten yours yet, you can contact Anne Bodine at: 765-294-2768 or E-Mail steamers@localnet.com.  Anne will get one for you!

IN SYMPATHY:

Club member, Chet Campfield died April 5, 2006 after a short illness.  We’d like to express our sympathy to the Campfield and the Olin families.  Chet enjoyed helping at the History Day and at our show in July.  You could always find him with his cabbage slicer , slicing up the cabbage for Kathy to make her famous slaw.  We will all miss him.

CAMPING:

Now is the time to get your name down for a spot to camp during the show in July.  If you are panning to camp, you need to contact John Carrell at 765-294-4127.  This way, John will have an idea on how many spaces will be needed.

ROCKY FORGE BLACKSMITHS:

The black smithing group met Saturday, April 8th at Ted’s shop.  It was a cold, windy day that had been planned for open forge time outside with members bringing their forges to set up for a day of black smithing fun.  Mother nature did not cooperate.  The time was still well spent with 3 forges going (one outside, one in a box truck and Ted’s indoor forge), the metal lathe was in operation, a small group worked on a shear, and couple guys doing work on the sanders.  We had a good raffle for scrap metal and time for fellowship.  All in all a lot was accomplished and we had a good time, lunch was at the West Point grill.

The blacksmiths will be represented at the History Day on May 1st and the Indiana Blacksmiths are evaluating a showing at the Indiana State Fair for which the Rocky Forge group will participate.  That’s all for now!!     Ted Stout

HISTORY DAY - MAY 1ST

HOSTING: FOUNTAIN COUNTY SCHOOLS

4th grade students from Attica and Covington will be arriving at the show grounds for the morning session and Fountain Central students will attend in the afternoon.

Our format will basically be the same as the last two years.  We need all club members (and friends) to volunteer to help clean and set-up on Sunday, April 30th and help on Monday, May 1st during the A.M. and P.M. sessions.  A sign-up sheet will be available at our meeting.

Several members will take this opportunity to enjoy an over-night stay in their campers.

So, put April 30th and May 1st on your calendar now and join us for some “Educational Fun”!!  And, keep your fingers crossed that we have better weather this year than we have had the last two years!!

A HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!!!!
