NO SEPTEMBER MEETING FOR THE ILLIANA ANTIQUE POWER ASSOCIATION.  INSTEAD:

                         CAMPING WEEKEND

                                    And

                             FUN DAY!!!

Get your campers out and join us for a camping weekend at the show grounds on September 17th & 18th.  All meals will be up to the individual families coming to camp….there is no dinner planned for Saturday night.

We will have a campfire for cooking wieners, marshmallows, etc.  (Or, if you like…..telling Ghost Stories!)

A donation of $10.00 per night of camping payable to the club (Doris Manlief, Treasurer) is requested.  This is not mandatory but would be nice to help cover any extra cost of electricity.  If there are any questions please call Kenny Short : 765-583-2991 or e-mail: kimshort_9@hotmail.com

Our annual “Fun Day” is scheduled to be held on September 19th.  We will have a carry-in dinner at 2:00 P.M.  Bring a dish to pass and your own table service.  The club will supply lemonade, ice tea and coffee.  Unfortunately, Bodine’s cider press is unavailable this year so we will not be pressing cider.

(If any one has a cider press and apples please contact Terry Bodine: 765-294-2768)  Come as early as you like (if not camping)….the railroad group will have the trains “fired up”!   The “people mover” will be available for rides and Don Bodine will have his steam engine fired up as well.  If you have a hobby you’d like to share or pictures from the July show, bring them along to show us.  Ask a friend, bring “em along”!  SEE YOU THERE!!

DIRECTORS MEETING SEPTEMBER 13TH AT 6:30 P.M. AT THE CLUBHOUSE.  NO DINNER PLANNED.

NEW DIRECTORS:

At the August meeting Tom Swanson and Art Petty were re-elected for another term of office.  Don Bodine and Kim Short were voted in as new directors.  Next month’s newsletter will have a list of new officers and a complete list of directors.

NEW MEMBERS:

We have more new members since last month!  Welcome Cody Glover, Fowler, In.,  Alex Hegg, Attica, In. and Richard Serie, Attica, In.

ROCKY FORGE BLACKSMITH NEWS:

The Indiana State Fair and all the other blacksmithing venues are now history for the summer.  Just a few festivals for individuals are remaining for September and October.  The State Fair was miserably hot with temperatures in our little building over 110 degrees.  Unfortunately, there is no hood or stack to remove the forge heat from the building.  The crowd was low the two days our group worked, mainly due to the heat.  Because of all the recent commitments we did not have a meeting in August.  We are planning a meeting for September 11th at Ted’s shop.  Our feature demonstrator will be Greg Searcy.  He will be demonstrating how to make a wizard head and the tools for making it.  Greg is both a good blacksmith and teacher so this should be a good demonstration.  After he does his show and tell, then the rest of the group will be encouraged to try their hand at it.  Hope to see a good crowd for this day.

PINE CREEK & WESTERN R.R. NEWS:

Hey all you Live Steamers and Large Scale Model Railroaders!   This is an invitation to our fall steam meet held in conjunction with the annual “Fun Day” gathering of the Illiana Antique Power Association.  We would love to have all the little Steamers and Diesels the place can hold!  If you don’t have an engine, or yours is currently “out-shopped”, come anyway.  All you need is a LOVE of railroading, especially the miniature variety.  The festivities will begin around 9:00 A.M. Sunday, September 19th and continue until we’re out of steam!   Bring a dish to pass ‘cause we eat at 2:00 P.M. Hope to see you there!  And, never forget….”Keep a close eye on the water”!

WORK DAY UP-DATE:  Terry Bodine and yours truly spent August 20th at the show grounds mowing around the track and bays.  We then sprayed  two tanks of chemicals around the track to get rid of the weeds and grass.  We plan to mow again for Fun Day.

The Blacksmith Group made a beautiful copper and stainless steel weather vane for the roof of the Ladies Pavilion.  It was displayed outside their building during the July show.  After much discussion at the August meeting, it was decided not to install it on the roof.  There was some concern that it could easily be stolen.  We will have it on display, but not permanently on the building.  Thank you, blacksmith’s, for the lovely addition  and for sharing your talents with the club!

TRACTOR TRIVIA:

Farm machinery magnate Robert H. Avery devised his first commercial product while confined to the infamous Andersonville prison during the Civil War.

THANK YOU:

A big THANK YOU goes to Don Evans for the use of his truck to move the windmill to the show grounds.  It has not yet been installed and will be another nice addition to the grounds when set up. Thanks Don!

REMINDERS:

Membership dues for 2010 were due at Show Time.  If you have not already paid, please send a check for $20.00 to Doris Manlief, 3618 Donna Dr., Lafayette, In. 47905  Also, we’re still asking for e-mail address’s for the newsletter to cut the cost on printing and mailing.  Send to: abodine1@wildblue.net

Art Petty needs some early pictures of the show grounds.  He’d like to do a pictorial of improvements through the years.  We can have copies made so you can still keep your pictures.  Please contact Art at:  765-294-2301.

We are still missing a “1983” Show Plaque on our board in the clubhouse.  If anyone has one that they would like to donate back to the club it would complete the board.

We need some plastic buckets to “hang over” the outlets through out the show grounds to protect them from the weather.  A few of the ones we had last year have been used elsewhere so we are short of what is needed.  If you have any to spare, please bring them to Fun Day or anytime you’re in the area.  You can leave them in the little barn by the blacksmith’s building.
